Introduction Top

The variation of 13 Cards Rummy is widely played across the world. It is also one of the simplest forms of playing the entertaining rummy game and the most popular variation of rummy in India.

13-card Rummy needs two decks of cards for a minimum of 2 players and a maximum of 6 players.

Gameplay Top

The 13-card rummy is played just like traditional rummy. All players at the table play in successive turns.

A player must pick a card either from the open deck or the closed deck of cards. Simultaneously the player must discard a card, to maintain the total number of 13 cards in hand. The other players take turns in a clockwise direction to draw a card and discard a card.

Players can also use the Joker card to form sets or runs. In the rummy universe of 13 cards rummy, the maximum number of points a player can get is 80, and the player with the lowest score at the end of the game is the winner.

13 Card Rummy Rules Top

  • The rules for 13-card rummy are pretty straightforward. For a player to win a particular game or a round, they must form a minimum of 2 sequences of which it is mandatory to form 1 pure sequence and the others can be pure or impure.
  • With the rest of the cards, you can form a valid sequence (Pure/Impure) and/or sets by grouping 3 or 4 cards of the same value from different suits without the repetition of the card of the same suit.

Points Calculation in 13 Card Rummy game Top

  1. In 13 cards rummy, the printed cards or numbered cards have the same value as their face value. Whereas, all the face cards like ace, king, queen and jack have a value of 10 points each.

  2. Wrong Show

    If a player declares the game with an invalid hand, he/she gets 80 points, and the game continues till a player emerges as the winner

  3. Maximum points a player can get

    A player can get a maximum of 80 points in 13 Cards Point Rummy irrespective of the cards that the player holds. So, if a player leaves the table/round or he/she couldn’t meld his/her cards (couldn’t even make one sequence) he/she will lose that round.

  4. How are drop points calculated in 13 card point rummy?

    Every player has the option to drop out during their turn. To drop the game, a player has to click on the “Drop” button. The Drop option is available only in Points and Pool Rummy variants in the 13 cards rummy game in the new rummy app.

  5. First Drop

    If a player drops in the very first turn, without picking a card, he/she will get 20 points.

  6. Middle Drop

    If a player drops after the first turn or drops after picking a card, he/she will get 40 points.
